Rodney Libraries Rhymetime and Storytime PolicyWhy we run Rhymetimes and StorytimesRodney Libraries provide Rhymetimes and Storytimes at its libraries to encourage the development of a reading society which values creative imaginations and enquiring minds. They are designed to• support the development of language skills in the very young What is involved?Rhymetime is a song and rhyme session for babies, toddlers and their caregivers. It incorporates songs and nursery rhymes with some promotion of the board book collection. Active participation by caregivers is central to the session. Storytime is a story reading, rhyme and song session for pre-school age children and their caregivers. It incorporates picture books, songs, rhymes and action activities. How we'll do itRhymetimes and Storytimes are provided free of charge to participants. Libraries will run Rhymetimes and Storytimes with consideration to space, staffing and customer demand. Librarians will use a variety of stories, books, songs and action activities to engage their audience. Materials used or handed out at or after the session will support the reason Rodney Libraries run Rhymetimes and Storytimes. Guidelines for caregiversNot all children manage to sit through a whole session and that's okay. Feel free to leave the session anytime you feel they have had enough. Once they get used to attending regularly they soon settle in for the whole session. Parents and caregivers are the first and best teachers of their children, and their attendance and active involvement at Rhymetimes and Storytimes with their children is required. That is, Rhymetimes and Stprytimes are not forums for parents and caregivers to drop off their children and leave them unattended. It is preferred that conversation during Storytime is minimised so that the children may hear the stories. Please approach the Library staff if you have any questions or comments about the session. |
